The Story of Tong Bin, A Potter
In the 27th year of the reign of Emperor Wanli (1599 A.D.), Pan Xiang, an eunuch, was assigned to supervise the production of Blue and White Dragon Pot but failed, so he whipped or even killed the relevant potters. It was said that a potter called Tong Bin, a native of Licun village  of Jingdezhen, was so indignant with the supervisor that he jumped into kiln fire. The death of Tong Bin aroused sadness and rage in the potters so that they determined to finish making the Dragon Pot to commemorate him. To ease the anger, the local government built “You Tao Ling Ci (a memorial hall to bless ceramic making)” as the monument of Tong Bin to the east of Imperial Kiln, and the hall was entitled “Feng Huo Xian (God of Wind and Fire)”. In the middle of the hall stood the statue of Tong Bin (also called the figure of god of wind and fire). There were predecessors of potters standing at both sides, who were doing different things such as keeping the kiln, holding the biscuit, piling the shelf, etc.
